Presenting Samuji Summer Hats, designed and hand crafted by milliner and designer Paula Kasu.

The hats are made of vintage wheat straw braid and hand-dyed to the most charming classic shade of midnight blue.

Paula Kasu has exclusively designed five different shapes for Samuji, catering to various tastes and outfits.

We are proud and consider ourselves fortunate to support and showcase Finnish craftsmanship, highlighting the exceptional skill found within our local community. 

 

 

 

Each design is handmade in Helsinki using traditional millinery techniques; the bases are blocked by hand, and every detail is gently shaped. This is an exclusive limited edition, available only for this 2024 summer season, as long as the materials last. 

 

 

 

All the Samuji summer hats are hand made on a wooden hat block, some of which are rare vintage pieces from the 1950s. Due to the handmade nature of these hats, slight personal variations may occur from one hat to another, which only adds to their uniqueness.

Paula Kasu is a Helsinki-based designer and maker, specializing in millinery from exhibition and bespoke pieces to ready-to-wear hats. Paula Kasu focuses on working with shapes, creating modern hats with unconventional designs. Her head accessories are displayed like small works of art, bringing a refreshing joie de vivre.

“I designed a collection where I played with a singular material to craft diverse silhouettes. Straw is a traditional and timeless summer material. Elevating its essence, I dyed it into a refined midnight navy, accentuating the silhouettes. The outcome is exquisite, whimsical hats, elevating your ensemble. Lightweight yet resilient, straw lends itself to sculptural forms, making it my favourite material for its versatile nature.”

Material: 100% wheat straw
Sizing: one size. The Edith hat has a comb inside to help keep it in place.
